BlueC
Carbon Binding Blue Black Sea (BSB00020)

  • Blue Carbon Capacity Building Programme Activities: The integrative blended mobility training “Blue Carbon Capacity Building Programme (BCCap)” will be composed of a Jointly developed training course that will be the combination of in-class and in-line learning activities.
  • Ecosystem-based Impact Assessment Guidelines Preparation Activities: A guideline for impact studies will be drafted incorporating conservation of seagrass meadows for enabling relevant authorities in target regions of the action in making a prospective analysis when a development that could harm the marine environment.
  • Mapping Activities: As the evolution of habitats in a certain time would show the progress in the region of interest, habitat mapping will be transferring scientific information to decision makers and local users.
  • Modelling Activities: A ‘state of the art’ modelling tool will be developed for planning and monitoring of restoration and rehabilitation projects for seagrass meadows, in order to attempt, in the long run, to reduce the threats to the meadows, and permit their conservation.
  • Monitoring Activities: The monitoring activities will be implemented in the same manner which was developed and implemented within Zero Waste Strategy for Good Environmental Status (ZEWSGES) project under Joint Operational Programme Black Sea Basin 2014-2020.

Target Groups of the Project

Target groups of the action will be primary and secondary school students and their teachers, local authorities and governments and local communities, i.e. local fishermen and private sector developers, and academia.

Estimated Results of the Project

As a consequence, a guideline will be prepared for a new impact assessment procedure incorporating introduction of laws and strengthening of existing regulations, particularly as regards impact studies to protect species permitting the meadow habitats to be protected. This will take place through support of technologies, such as GIS and remote sensing for mapping, marine litter monitoring using Marine Litter Watch app of ZEWSGES project, ecosystem modelling for

understanding complex systems at spatiotemporal scales needed to conserve, manage, and restore ecosystem services (ESs).
